Yesh Atid MK Dov Lipman

Today, the first year HUC class had the pleasure of meeting with Yesh Atid MK & Orthodox Rabbi Dov Lipman. He is originally from Silver Spring, Maryland and made aliyah in 2004. He was inspiring & insightful while shining bright of political naiveté.

A few interesting bullet points of what he said.:

  • Diaspora Jewry should not criticize Israel's defense policy publicly, especially in relation to the Palestinian conflict.
  • He supports the evolution of Halakha (Jewish Law), especially in regards to the role of women in Judaism.
  • He supports  the recognition of non-Orthodox life cycle events (specifically Marriage, Divorce & Burial).
  • He described Yesh Atid as a big family, yet to feel the pain of inparty backstabbing. They all support each other.
  • He repeatedly referred to Yair Lapid as 'Yair' and other Yesh Atid MKs by their first names. Love the informal air of Israeli culture.

He was charming and thought provoking and we all look forward to maintaining a dialogue with him.
